Newbuildings draw short straw with Brigade trip

IF Newbuildings are to reach their first Senior Cup final, they will have to do it the hard way.
After knocking out holders Donemana in Saturday’s quarter-final, they were given an away tie to Brigade, the 2019 winners, in yesterday’s semi-final draw.
A stunning innings by Johnny Thompson — 144 from 90 balls — was the key to their victory over Thompson’s boyhood club, and now the Ireland A all-rounder will get the chance to do it again against more former team-mates.
The Beechgrove clash has been brought forward 24 hours to Saturday because Brigade face Cork Harlequins in the All-Ireland T20 final at Rathmines on Sunday, following their victory over Carrickfergus.
The other semi-final, which will take place on Sunday, is between Premiership leaders Bready, who have not been in the final since they beat Donemana in 2011, and Eglinton, beaten finalists in 2018 and 2015
In the semi-final draw for the Sam Jeffrey Shield — this year for teams who lost in the first round of the Senior Cup — Strabane will face Fox Lodge, and St Johnston, who clinched the Championship title on Sunday, host Glendermott.
