Eglinton will host Brigade in the final of the North West Senior Cup on September 10-11 after the Beechgrove side defeated Newbuildings in the second semi-final on Saturday.

It threatened to be an exciting finish when Brigade, chasing 186 for victory, slumped to 153 for seven but, unfortunately for Newbuildings, Andy Britton was still in and joined by opening bowling partner Ryan Macbeth.

Together they added the remaining runs without being parted, although Britton was dropped with just four needed to reach their third successive two-day final. They are, technically the holders of the cup – Donemana beat them in last year’s Senior Cup final but that was reduced to a 20-over game because of last year’s Covid restrictions - and they also beat Eglinton in the 2018 showpiece.

Johnny Thompson formerly of Brigade but, now playing for Newbuildings, caused the early mayhem, taking four wickets, but he ran out of overs as Brigade completed a great week for the club, having won the All-Ireland T20 Cup just six days earlier.

Brigade were back in action yesterday in the Long’s SuperValu Premiership and defeated Coleraine by 64 runs.
Kyle Magee hit an unbeaten century in Brigade’s 246 for four while Macbeth, after his match-winning innings of 12 not out on Saturday, was promoted to opener and effectively brought up his 100 as well over the two days, out for 90.

The pair added 152 for the third wicket with Macbeth hitting nine fours and four sixes and Magee hitting one more six but only six fours.

Macbeth then struck two early blows with the ball and although David Cooke and Matthew Hutchinson added an undefeated 93 for the sixth wicket, they were well behind the run-rate.

There was a thrilling finish to yesterday’s other Premiership game with Ardmore paying the price for playing with 10 men. They lost their ninth wicket, with four balls left, with the scores tied on 172 so had to share the points for a tie. Earlier Rachit Gaur had taken his second match ball of the weekend, having also taken five wickets in Saturday’s defeat by Donemana.
