2021 looks set to be the final season at Claremont Road for YMCA following a decision by the owners to sell the land.

It's a devastating blow to the club who have been at the Sandymount venue for 110 years.

YMCA are the reigning All Ireland T20 champions and have a thriving youth and women's section, supplying many internationals at all levels.

In a letter to its members Club President Heatley Tector informed them that the grounds would be put on the open market today.

2021 could well be the last year cricket is played at Claremont Road

A lease is being offered to the Cricket club for the 2021 season which, if a sale is completed, will be the final one.

The club now faces a real battle to maintain its existence, with options limited given their location in Dublin 4, where land prices are at a premium.

However, one saving grace is that the ground is a designated green space at the minute, so unless developers get that changed, will keep the vultures away temporarily. It's unclear at this juncture if a part purchase of the ground is a feasible option for the club.

While a ground share with one of their neighbours could be a short-term option, it usually spell the death knell for clubs, so it's essential they find their own ground.

Easier said than done.
