It was late last night before CIYMS found out if Murray Commins, their Irish qualifying South African could not play in today’s Lagan Valley Steels T20 Cup match against Woodvale.

The NCU waited all day on a decision from the Home Office, via Cricket Ireland, on whether he was allowed to play club cricket under a Tier 2 visa, but none was forthcoming, leaving the union with no option but to say they cannot approve his registration.

Cricket Ireland allowed Commins to play in Thursday’s inter-provincial for Munster Reds – an elite-level match - but the NCU are still waiting for clarification if he can play club cricket with a Tier 2 visa, one they had never seen before.
