The Women's Development League, a new initiative by the governing body, got under way this week with two games down for decision.

Coleraine were winners at Ballyspallen with Rachel Johnston the Player of the Match as she top-scored with an unbeaten 45 and followed it up with two wickets.

Rachel is the grand-daughter of the late Roy Torrens, whose grand-niece Chloe Torrens was in the wickets on Monday night in their league game at Bready.

The Bannsiders posted 99-1 in their 16 overs and Ballyspallen were restricted to 69-7 in reply, with Becky Lockhart also claiming a brace of wickets and a catch.

In the other game, Bonds Glen scored 94-2 against Newbuildings before restricting their opponents to 74-5.

On Tuesday night the NW distributed kitbags of equipment worth £300 to all the new under-13ís girls teams as part of a determined effort to raise the profile and participation efforts of the game in the region.
