Adam Chester (pictured) is once again skipper of Phoenix, and he will have Irish internationals George Dockrell and Tyrone Kane under his command, plus Conor Sheil.

“After a long and frustrating year or so we are delighted to be getting back to playing cricket<" Chester told CricketEurope.

"We have added a wealth of experience to our young squad, providing us with good balance with plenty of our exciting youngsters pushing on over the last 12 months.

"The prospect of returning to 50 over cricket later in the summer is also very promising, and no doubt would be welcomed back across the country."

The players recruited replaced two other high profile departures as Ben White and Jeremy Lawlor departed.

"We’re delighted to see Ben White and Jeremy Lawlor step up into the Irish squad and reckoning, but unfortunately they were asked to move from the club which has challenged our strategy," said a club spokesperson.

"However, we are delighted to have signed George, Tyrone and Conor - all quality blokes, and quality cricketers, a step up in leadership for the team and club.

"We are still in the chasing pack behind Pembroke and Merrion, but we have a hungry squad with a number of younger players developing and pushing for international caps, so it was great to see Jamie Grassi take his opportunities with the Lightning this year, and we expect Aaron Cawley, Theo Dempsey, Louis McDonough and others to do the same."

Phoenix start their season on Monday when they take on Dublin University at College Park.
