Merrion and YMCA will meet in the Leinster League Cup final after semi-final wins against North County and Clontarf.

Michael Lewis gave Merrion a fast start as he hit 4 fours and a six in a 24-ball 35, but three wickets for County skipper Eddie Richardson (3-14) stalled their progress.

However Max Sorensen's late burst saw him clear the ropes twice in his 31 from just 16 balls, which saw 33 come in three overs, and those runs were to prove crucial in the final analysis as Merrion posted 133 for 8.

Hugh Kennedy (3-14) strangled the County chase, but with Richardson and John Mooney in the middle with five overs left and 47 needed, the contest still hung in the balance.

Mooney though fell for 17, one of two wickets for James Hitchcock (2-24) and despite Richardson's four boundaries in a run-a-ball 34, Merrion sealed a ten-run win.

YMCA are also through to Saturday's decider after they gained revenge against a Clontarf side that had mauled them in the Premier League just 24 hours earlier.

Half centuries from Rory Anders and Tim Tector saw YM shrug off the absence of their international trio of Simi Singh, Curtis Campher and Harry Tector to post 157 for 5.

Anders in his new opening role hit 9 boundaries in a top score of 65 from just 49 balls, while Tector's strike rate also impressed as he made 51 from 39 deliveries (4 fours, 1 six).

David Delany was the pick of the Clontarf attack and his batting was the highlight of a losing cause.

Cillian McDonnell struck a vital blow early dismissing PJ Moor for just 6, and with the Claremont Road bowling unit keeping it tight, Clontarf never threatened the target at any stage.

Delany struck a few lusty blows late on in his 68 not out, but YM closed out a relatively comfortable 18-runs verdict.

The final will as always be at Sydney Parade this coming Saturday.
