Clontarf kept their hopes alive of a final slot with a hard-fought 14-run win against Malahide.

Batting first, PJ Moor was back from commentary duty, and hit four boundaries in a quickfire 25 as the Castle Avenue side raced to 38 without loss in four overs.

Thereafter the bowlers seized control with two wickets apiece for Matt Ford (2-16) and Michael Frost (2-21) strangling the innings.

David Delany (28*) and Fionn Hand (18) chipped in as Clontarf finished on 118 for 7.

It proved to be enough as Malahide too struggled in the chase as the 'Tarf attack took a tight grip.

Ben McCabe (2-14) and Fionn Hand (2-19) both picked up two wickets, while there was one apiece for David Delany, Michael Grainger and David Vincent.

Alistair Frost (31) and John Pryor (20) both got runs but not at the required rate as they finished on 104 for 7.

The Hills and Clontarf meet on Saturday in a crucial game which will go a long way to deciding who joins Merrion in the final.
