There was sad news today following the death of Glendermott stalwart Jim Campbell.

Jim was a familiar and welcoming face at The Rectory, firstly as a player for many decades, then in later years as President amongst a host of other voluntary roles.

One of his many highlights at the club he clearly so loved was the Match Manager role during the 2008 European Under 17 Championships in the North West.

"Jim was full of knowledge, which he was only too willing to pass on and help others," said a Glendermott CC spokesperson.

"He just loved cricket and the club.

"Without people like Jim Campbell there would not be a club and facilities to be proud of."

North West Chairman Brian Dougherty paid tribute to the indefatigable efforts of Jim Campbell over such a long period of time.

"The NWCU are saddened to hear of the death of Jim Campbell," said Dougherty.

"Jim was a well known and respected member of the North West cricketing fraternity.

"A competitive player with Glendermott, he went on to put as much into the club off the field, as he did on it.

"A past President and Chairman of the club, he was always a welcoming figure to the Rectory and will be sadly missed.

"Condolences to all his circle of family and friends."

Funeral arrangements to follow when confirmed.
