There was sad news this week with the death of Ivan Harper.

Having come late to cricket, Ivan was a solid batsman and renowned slip fielder with Balbriggan and North County.

It was however off the field that Ivan's indefatigable efforts as a clubman received widespread acclamation.

"Ivan gave generously of his time to both clubs over the past 30 years," said a Balbriggan CC spokesperson.

"Most notably Ivan served as President of our Club from 2012 to 2019. He took great pride in serving in the role his late Father Jack held for many years and always served Balbriggan with pride and distinction.

"Ivan was simply a gentleman , always keen to chat on the boundary of the cricket on how the game was going , enjoy a laugh and discuss the latest performance of his beloved Man United. He idolised his grand-daughters Lily and Indie, he lived for his family, cricket, football , Loved a bet on the horses and loved life in general.

"Ivan will be sadly missed and remembered always, by all of us who were lucky enough to know him."

Condolences to his wife Frances, children Ian, Ingrid and Duane, daughter in-law Gemma, grandchildren Lily and Indie and the wider Harper family.
