North Kildare have signed Indian batsman Kaustub Pawar for the 2022 season.

The Maws club will be hoping it is a case of third time lucky after two previous attempts to have him in Ireland fell through due to the Covid pandemic.

The former Mumbai Indians batsman has extensive experience of UK conditions and is a real coup for the Leinster club.

Pawar is an opening batsman and medium-pacer who’s played 33 first-class matches for the Mumbai between 2011 and 2016, scoring 1,629 runs at 30.73, with six fifties and five hundreds.

His most recent century came against the touring New Zealanders in 2016, an attack that featured quicks’ Trent Boult, Neil Wagner, and Doug Bracewell, alongside the spin trio of Mitch Santner, Mark Craig and Ish Sodhi.

In five stints in UK league cricket “KP” has been a prolific run-scorer, hitting 5,519 runs at 56.32 and has taken his share of wickets too, bowling right-arm medium pace.

He spent two seasons with Northern Premier League side Barrow, and also two years with Greenmount, whom he helped to promotion in the Greater Manchester Cricket League (Division 1) in his opening season, where he topped the run charts with 1136 runs at 87.38.

He is sure to be a real asset on and off the field at North Kildare.
