Theo Lawson is the new captain of Pembroke, and he will have a new overseas professional at Sydney Parade, with Poonish Mehta joining the club.

Lawson takes over the reins from Fiachra Tucker who will be a tough act to follow having captained Pembroke to Irish Cup success in 2019.

"We're delighted to have Poonish join us for the 2022 season," Lawson told CricketEurope.

"He has big boots to fill replacing Shaheen Khan, however his record in Leinster is very impressive and we all look forward to welcoming him into the club."

Mehta has scored 1137 runs in his 43 appearances with Merrion and Phoenix, averaging just over 43, including ten half centuries, and a highest score of 92 against Malahide.

It's with the ball though that he has made the greatest impact, with his 71 wickets costing just 13.80 apiece, including one five-wicket haul, his 6 for 8 against Phoenix in Merrion's title winning campaign.

"I've also big boots to fill," added Lawson.

"Fiachra has been an excellent leader and player for us, we'll miss him next season.

"I'll be looking to continue on his great work. We've an exciting squad and with the addition of Poonish, we'll be looking to challenge for silverware in 2022."
