The first day of the sole Americas sub-regional qualifier for the 2026 Men's T20 World Cup began yesterday in the Argentinian capital of Beunos Aires, though it was a damp start with one game abandoned and two reduced from their scheduled twenty overs.
Three teams progress from the nine team tournament and will join Canada in the regional final sometime next year. USA are already through thanks to their surprise Super 8 finish at this year's main tournament.

The washout yesterday was the match between the hosts and Bermuda in the morning at the St George's College Ground. The game between Panama and Suriname went ahead at St Albans but was reduced to 15 overs. The Suriname side were playing their first game in almost a decade after an eligibility scandal put them firmly in the ICC's bad books.
Irfan Hafejee top scored for the Panama side with an unbeaten 35 in their total of 93-6. Gavin Singh - one of the players caught up in that eligibility scandal but who evidently has now been given the all-clear by the ICC - scored an unbeaten 39 in the Suriname reply, but no other batter was able to stay with him and they were kept to 83-8, losing by 10 runs.
The afternoon match at St Georges between Brazil - playing in Men's T20 World Cup qualifying for the first time since 2011 - and the Bahamas was reduced to a 16 over contest. Bahamas were kept to 89-4 from their 16 overs but that proved to be enough as Brazil were kept to 63-9, losing by 16 runs with only their openers able to reach double figures. Kervon Hinds took 3-13.
Mexico - also playing in qualifying for the first time since 2011 - took on Belize at St Albans in the only opening day match to be played as a full 20 over contest. Mexico batted first after winning the toss and scored 112-6 from their 20 overs. An unbeaten 41 by Maurice Castillo helped Belize chase down their target with two balls to spare to win by five wickets.
In today's matches, hosts Argentina take on Belize with Brazil playing Mexico in the morning matches. Cayman Islands play their first game in the afternoon when they come up against Panama, whilst Bermuda face off against Suriname.
