Newbuildings moved to within one victory of completing a domestic treble after brushing aside Strabane by eight wickets in a one-sided Premiership contest.

Ross Hunter’s side, already with two trophies in the cabinet, know that victory over bottom side St Johnston next weekend will confirm them as league champions.

Strabane never recovered from a poor start after being asked to bat, losing Khemchandani without scoring and captain Aaron Gillespie for six as Josh Wilson struck twice with the new ball.

Conor Graham tried to steady the innings with 28, while Ryan Gallagher made 14, but Newbuildings maintained relentless pressure.

Jared Wilson and Peat Salmon - the top two in the Premiership bowling charts - then took over, each claiming four wickets. Wilson finished with four for 30, while Salmon returned four for 18 as Strabane were dismissed for just 101 with half the overs unused.

Allen Patterson offered some late resistance with an unbeaten 21, but the total was never likely to seriously trouble the title challengers.

Newbuildings did lose Mark Hanna in the opening over of the reply, but Ryan Hunter ensured there would be no complications. The left-hander struck nine fours and a six in an unbeaten 54 from 50 balls, sharing an 82-run second-wicket stand with Jason Dunn, who made 20.

Dunn fell with the score on 82, but Salmon (16) quickly finished matters, smashing a four and two sixes.

Newbuildings reached their target in just 15 overs to complete an emphatic victory. The equation is now simple: beat St Johnston next weekend and the Premiership crown, and with it a memorable treble, will belong to the Foyleview side.
