Jersey ensured that they will head into the final day of the European Under-19 Division 2 Championship unbeaten after a win today over the pre-tournament favourites the Netherlands at Colchester Cricket Club.
After Dutch captain Saqib Zulfiqar won the toss and elected to bat first, it was his brothers Asad and Sikander who were the top run scorers for the Netherlands. The pair put on 73 for the fourth wicket before Asad was dismissed lbw by Robert Duckett.
Sikander went on to score 58 before he was caught by Eilliot Miles, sharing in a partnership of 58 for the fifth wicket with Adriaan Verbeek. Verbeek's 36 was the only other significant contribution to the Dutch innings as they were bowled out for 194.
Jersey started their reply slowly and steadily, with William Robertson and Benjamin Ward putting on 77 for the opening wicket in 25.3 overs before Robertson was dismissed for 34. Ward then put on 75 for the second wicket with the in-form Jonty Jenner before he was bowled for 57.
Jenner went on to score 70 from 63 balls before he was out, and Jersey went on to win the game by 6 wickets with 2.3 overs to spare.
Jersey will now play Denmark tomorrow at Mistley Cricket Club, whilst the Netherlands will take on Guernsey at Coggeshall Cricket Club. A win for Jersey will ensure promotion to Division One, and secure the tournament title.
