Richard (“The Flash”) Dunne, 1938-2017
Richard Dunne was born on 21 November 1938 and his love for The Hills CC was unconditional.
For many years, Richard said that he hoped that would win the All-Ireland Senior Cup, before he died. Early in 2012 at a meeting of a group which meet in a café to discuss all sorts of weighty matters, Max Sorensen promised Richard that The Hills would win the Irish Senior Cup (Bob Kerr Cup) that year.

The Hills reached the final, and on a memorable day at Clontarf, beat Merrion. After the cup was presented to Nazeer Shaukat, Richard went over to Naz, hugged him, and said, “now, I can die happy”.
The team and supporters went back to The Hills to continue the celebrations, and at about 10.00 o’clock, Max asked for a bit of hush. After a few well-chosen words, he presented the medal which he had won that day to Richard. To see the tears of joy flowing down Richard’s cheeks showed the depth of Richard’s emotional attachment to The Hills.
Later, that story was recounted to Joe Doherty, the President of Cricket Ireland, and he very kindly ensured that another medal was sourced for Max.
Michael Dwyer, Chairperson of The Hills CC, decided to organise three pieces of memorabilia which were associated with Richard – his beloved Hills’ cap, his pipe and the Irish Senior Cup medal.
David O’Connor, past President of Cricket Ireland, has very kindly agreed to unveil the framed memorabilia at The Vineyard on Saturday, 22 June during the interval between the two T20 games.
