Guernsey to play 100 Ball Series in North East

Guernsey’s wins in 2023 mean they will be swapping the ICC qualifiers in Denmark, for a trip to play in ‘The North East Cricket Series’ and a first 100 ball ‘international’ series in August.

Guernsey, who impressively won the Cornerstone Academy series against Cricket Ireland, Hampshire, and Somerset in April, faces a multi-format North East Cricket series, with two match 100 ball swing, hosted by Billingham Synthonia CC in Teesside, Northern England.

Billingham, the current ECB NYSD Division 1 leader, and holder of what is believed to be the world’s record individual score in an ECB-sanctioned 100-ball game of 174 off 68 balls by Tayyab Tahir in 2022.

Ben Ferbrache, Guernsey Pathway Lead was pleased to see the young tourists would have their first experience of 100-ball cricket: “The North East Series is about challenging our players.  On the same night, the Trent Rockets will be playing down the road, and the Collingwood 100 ball final is played regionally, so the Guernsey boys will feel part of a very English format of the game.  Having watched Tayyab’s innings, it is an example to our young players of what a positive mindset can achieve if his record is safe for many a year”.

Billingham’s junior section lead Tom Harper was delighted to be welcoming the 100 ball series in August adding “As former regional champions in 100 ball, I can say it is a great format for a multi-format series to play a day in.  It will showcase to the coaches, who are the players that deliver under pressure, and if anyone beats Tayyab’s record, I will be the first to shake their hand”.

‘The North East Cricket Series’ will be releasing more series details in the coming days.
