FOX LODGE CLOSE IN ON WOMEN’S TITLE

Fox Lodge are just one win away from the Women’s Premiership title after a stunning win over fierce rivals Bready on Tuesday night. Batting first Foxies opener Lucy Neely made 25 and skipper Hannah McLaughlin 19 in a total of 108 for 6 – boosted by 34 extras.

The hosts knew the wicket of Irish international Alana Dalzell would hold the key to the game, and courtesy of a stunning grab by Elle Moore off the bowling of Laird, they got their prize scalp for 10. That crucial blow seemed to deflate the young Magheramason side who lost eight wickets for just seven runs to be bowled out for 26 – their lowest score for many a moon.

Elle Moore and Mollie Devine each took three for three, while there was a brace for Kacey Laird in the 82-run win – a game that will live long in the memory for the Ballymagorry side who now have the chance to complete the treble with their last home game against Newbuildings next week.

“We are naturally delighted with our win against Bready,” said a very proud Fox Lodge captain Hannah McLaughlin afterwards. “We dug deep from the beginning being put in to bat first and the girls ensured we got off to a good start to get 108 from our 20 overs.

“We were aware that this would have been well in reach for Bready but again our bowling attack was outstanding which is evident from the scoreboard as we got them all out for 26. Young Elle Moore again was exceptional with her figures and two great catches on the field. There were also three wickets for Mollie, two for Kacey and one for Lucy Neely.

“It really was a special team performance, one that we won’t forget anytime soon.”
