With several of the Canadian squad for this trip to the Netherlands having played in the Global T20 play-offs back home as recently as two days ago, the side arrived in the country at the last moment and based on the energy levels on display were still suffering from jetlag as they lost the first game of the latest CWC League 2 tri-series to hosts Netherlands in Voorburg today.

Batting first after winning the toss, Canada lost opener Aaron Johnson cheaply and continued to find runs mostly hard to come by throughout their innings. From 51-4, Harsh Thaker and Shreyas Movva added 60 runs before Thaker was bowled by Michael Levitt for 35.

That partnership took almost a full twenty overs though, and whilst Movva batted on until he was the last man out in the penultimate over for 65, Canada's total of 194 never looked like being enough. Kyle Klein was the pick of the bowlers for the home side with 4-33 with Paul van Meekeren taking 3-41.

The Dutch started off looking like they were crusing with Michael Levitt and Max O'Dowd adding 77 in 15.4 overs before Levitt fell for 45. Another 78 came from O'Dowd and Vikramjit Singh before the latter was out for 29.

There was then a brief wobble as Saad bin Zafar took three quick wickets, but O'Dowd held his nerve and finished not out on 79 to secure a five wicket win for the hosts in what was the first match between the two sides since the 2015 World T20 Qualifier.

Canada will be back in action on Tuesday with a game against old rivals USA at the same venue. Netherlands next play on Thursday, also against the USA.
