Scotland have beaten the Netherlands by 34 runs in the final match of a women's ODI tri-series in the Netherlands, securing the tri-series title but also giving them a boost in their ODI World Cup qualification hopes.

Hosts India and the top five teams from the ongoing Women's ODI Championship qualify automatically for the World Cup, whilst the bottom four teams plus the next best two teams from the ODI rankings will play in the World Cup qualifier that will provide another two participants.

Scotland's tri-series performance means that they are now 12th in the rankings and as things stands they - along with ninth ranked Thailand - will be the associate representatives in the qualifier at a venue yet to be announced. Netherlands are just behind Scotland whilst Zimbabwe are much further behind. Papua New Guinea are on the table with a rating of zero and USA haven't played enough games to get on the table.

With time - and money to arrange fixtures - in short supply ahead of the October cut-off, Scotland are now all but certain of a place in that qualifier, the first time they will have played in the tournament since 2017.

As for today's game, it was a low scoring affair. Batting first after winning the toss, Scotland scored 187 before they lost their last wicket from the penultimate delivery of their innings. Saskia Horley top scored again with 43 with contributions also coming from Katherine Fraser (39) and Priyanaz Chatterji (33).

Scotland used eight bowlers in the Dutch reply, five of them taking wickets. The main contributions for the home side came from Frederique Overdijk (34) and Caroline de Lange (33) as they were bowled out for 153, losing by 34 runs.

The three teams from this ODI tri-series - Papua New Guinea having finished third without a win - will now play in a brief T20I tri-series at the VRA ground starting on Wednesday, with just a single round-robin deciding the winner this time.
