Denmark and Guernsey will meet in the final of this third of three European sub-regional qualifiers that form part of the qualification pathway to the next men's T20 World Cup.
Denmark secured their spot in the final with a crushing 142 run win over Cyprus this morning at KGV. Batting first they scored 205-4 with Hamid Shah making his third score over fifty in as many games with 91 from 55 balls. Oliver Hald then took 3-12 as the Cypriots were kept to 63-9 with only two batters reaching double figures.
Over at Port Soif, Finland also had a big win. Batting first they scored 199-8 from their 20 overs. Vanraaj Padhaal top scored with 58 from 39 balls whilst Faheem Nellancheri hit 44 from 22 balls. Similarly to Cyprus in the other game, only two Bulgarian batters reached double figures as they were kept to 74-9, losing by 125 runs.
However the win wasn't big enough to lift Finland's net run rate above that of Guernsey, meaning that Guernsey had secured their place in the final.
Estonia were still able to finish level on points with Guernsey and Finland but the NRR position was such that it was impossible for them to go top of the table. Malta batted first against them at Port Soif in the afternoon and scored 132-8. Estonia won by five wickets with seven balls to spare.
At KGV, Czechia batted first against Greece and scored 159-6, with 59 of them coming from Sazib Bhuiyan at the top of the order. Nine bowlers were used by the Greeks. Greece were then bowled out for 84 to lose by 75 runs.
The key match tomorrow is of course the one between Denmark and hosts Guernsey that will decide who will join Scotland, Netherlands, Italy and Jersey in next year's regional final. But there are also matches to decide third place between Spain and Finland, 5th place between Czechia and Estonia and seventh place between Cyprus and Malta.
