League champions Pembroke (Cricket Leinster)

Pembroke are the Premiership champions after they edged out challengers Merrion in a tense, low scoring affair at Anglesea Road. Tim (45) and Jack Tector (44) were the top scorers for the visitors as they made what looked a below par 138 - four wickets for left-arm spinner Tom Stanton (4-24) and three for paceman Melvin Deveraj (3-26). The game looked a forgone conclusion as the hosts raced to 47 for 0 in 7 overs before the break, but it was to be a different Pembroke that emerged refreshed after the interval. Leg-spinner Gavin Hoey ripped through the middle order to claim 5 for 31 after two initial breakthroughs by Nick Stapleton. Merrion kept chipping away but Byron McDonough took two more to leave them on the brink of the title. With 10 needed it was Harry Tector who claimed the last wicket, trapping Deveraj in front to spark great celebrations in the Sydney Parade faithful. You have to feel sorry for Merrion who missed out on the Irish Cup in similar circumstances last month in Cork.

The hosts were always behind in the chase despite a quick start from Getkate (37). Amish Sidhu (38) and Coach Tyrone Kane (20) both got starts, while Adam Chester thumped 5 fours and 3 sixes in a 28-ball 44, but it was too little, too late as John McNally's five wicket haul was decisive. Still, it's not been a bad year for Phoenix given their capture of Irish cricket's most coveted prize.
