Carrickfergus

  • Captain: CJ van der Walt
  • Overseas professional: Ruan Haasbroek
  • Players in: Richard Hood, Sam Gordon
  • Players out: Craig Averill, Ben Cave, Levi Cave.

CJ van der Walt will once again be in the hot seat as he leads Carrickfergus in the top flight of the NCU.

There is a new overseas professional with South African Ruan Haasbroek arriving at Middle Road. He is a 26 year-old right-hand top-order bat and useful off-break bowler.

Also making their way back is Richard Hood, and he is joined by Sam Gordon.

Moving out are Craig Averill - back at Coleraine - while Ben and Levi Cave are off to Templepatrick.

"We are looking forward to get this season started after a long winter, as we have been training away indoors for a while now and looks like we will be doing so for another week or so with this weather," said  Van Der Walt.

"We have a few changes as Craig Averill will be leaving us this season, playing in the North West again. It was great having him at Carrick and we wish him all the best in his upcoming season. So too Levi and Ben Cave as they have moved to Templepatrick.

"We have Richard Hood in and Sam Gordon as two new players along with Jake Egan back and a new pro Ruan Haasbroek. I think all these players will play a big part in strengthening our batting and bowling line-ups.

"We will definitely be looking to do our best this year to compete as best we can, as it will be a strong league as always and that's what makes it a great challenge.

"There will definitely be a few good opportunities for younger players this year and more game time at Premier League level to develop. Alex Armstrong has been working hard over the winter with the Junior Knights, so it will be nice see him go out there and play more senior cricket.

"Hopefully we can chase after some more silverware this year after coming close last year - I believe we as a team can do that."
