The Netherlands hopes of a second consecutive top eight finish at the T20 World Cup have come to an end after the final day's play in Group D of the ongoing men's T20 World Cup.

Bangladesh's game against Nepal was the first of the two games to start, with the Dutch game against Sri Lanka starting an hour later.

Put into bat in St Vincent, Bangladesh were bowled out for 106 by Nepal, with four bowlers taking two wickets each alongside two run outs. Shakib Al Hasan's 17 was their top score.

Nepal quickly found themselves on the backfoot in their reply as they were reduced to 26-5 by the end of the seventh over. Kushal Malla and Dipendra Singh Airee added 52 for the sixth wicket to threaten an upset, but Malla's dismissal for 27 started another collapse as the last five wickets fell for just seven runs.

Tanzim Hasan Sheikh and Mustafizur Rahman both went for just seven runs from their four overs, taking four and three wickets respectively as their team completed a 21 run win to secure a Super Eight place for Bangladesh.

Over in St Lucia, Sri Lanka were put into bat by the Netherlands and made the joint highest score of the tournament so far, racking up 201-6 from their 20 overs. Kusal Mendis and Charith Asalanka both scored 46.

The top score in the Dutch reply was also shared by two batters with Michael Levitt and Scott Edwards both contributing 31. But there were no other scores of note as the Dutch were bowled out for 118 and lost by 83 runs.

The Netherlands now go back to regional qualifying. Like Scotland, they too have finished with a better record in the tournament than Ireland who, as a result of Bangladesh making the Super 8, will get automatic entry to the 2026 tournament.
