Estonia's Sahil Chauhan has put his name in the record books with a blistering 27-ball century in the second of six T20Is against Cyprus at the Happy Valley Cricket Ground in Cyprus.
He scored his first 50 runs in 14 balls dealing almost exclusively in boundaries - 5 sixes and 4 fours at that point. There was one more four and another 8 sixes in the next 13 balls as he brought up his century from 27 balls, beating Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton's record by six balls, scored for Namibia against Nepal in February.
He eventually finished unbeaten on 144 from 41 balls. It is all the more remarkable that the innings came batting second with Estonia chasing the Cyprus total of 191-7. It is the highest score by any player in the chasing innings of a T20I, and the highest by any associate player in either innings. His 18 sixes are the most by a player in T20Is.
His previous matches for Estonia gave no signs of what was to come. He played twice against Gibraltar last September, scoring 16 and 2 (not out both times) and was dismissed for a golden duck in the first game between the two sides this morning.
Estonia have a 2-0 lead in the series, winning today by five wickets in the first match and six wickets in the second match. Six games will be played in all, with the Estonian women also in Cyprus for a six match series.
