The Estonia men's and women's teams have been simultaneously touring Cyprus for six match T20I series these past three days, and it was mixed fortunes with the men winning their series 4-2 and the women losing 5-0 with one game washed out.
As reported on Monday, Estonia won the first two games with Sahil Chauhan setting the record books ablaze during the second game with the fastest T20I century and most sixes in an innings.
Yesterday, Cyprus batted first in the third game of the series and scored 166-6 with Scott Burdekin top scoring with 49. Estonia started with a 68 run partnership between Arslan Amjad and Ali Masood which ended when Amjad was dismissed for 40. Masood reached 52 before he was the fifth man out and they were kept to 154-9, losing by 12 runs.
The fourth game, also played yesterday, saw Estonia bat first for the first time in the series and get bowled out for 144 with Sahil Chauhan top scoring with 42. Chauhan then showed his all-round abilities with 4-19 as the home side were bowled out for 118, losing by 26 runs.
The fifth game this morning saw Estonia score 145-6 batting first, Chauhan again top scoring with 35. Akila Kalugala top scored in the Cyprus reply with 42 helping his team chased down their target with one ball to spare, winning by four wickets.
Sahil Chauhan was back with his big hitting exploits in the final game today, smashing an unbeaten 60 from 22 balls, though he was out scored by Bilal Masud's 66. Steffan Gooch also contributed with 54 in Estonia's total of 186-5. The hosts were then bowled out for 155 to lose by 31 runs, securing a 4-2 series win for the visitors.
The women's series, played over the same days, was a different story, with hosts Cyprus dominant throughout. In the first game they recovered from 59-6 to post 145-7 from their 20 overs. Estonia were then kept to 96-6 in their reply, the home team winning by 49 runs.
Estonia batted first in the second game and were bowled out for 75. Only one batter reached double figures with 36 of the runs coming in extras. Cyprus chased down thwir target in 12 overs to win by six wickets, extras again being the top score.
An unbroken 82 partnership for the fifth wicket took Cyprus to a total of 121-4 in the third game of the series. This proved to be enough as Estonia were restricted to 68-7 from their 20 overs, losing by 53 runs.
The fourth game was the closest, with Cyprus batting first and scoring 108-5, captain Iresha Chathurani contributing an unbeaten 46. Estonia got close, needing 11 from their last over, but Dinelka Koralalage held her nerve and went for just five runs, Cyprus winning by five runs.
The fifth game this morning was washed out, but play was able to take place for the sixth and final game. Iresha Chathurani was in the runs again with an unbeaten 68 in a total of 125-4 for the Cypriots. She then took two wickets as Estonia were bowled out for 98, losing by 27 runs and giving Cyprus a 5-0 series win.
