DONEMANA STAY ON COURSE FOR THE TREBLE
It was something of a Carlsberg weekend for Donemana, who won all three matches played to keep their treble hopes very much on track.
“It certainly was a brilliant week for us at Donemana,” said skipper Gary McClintock. “Starting off with the T20 against Foxies, we made hard work out of it but got the win in the end.
“In the Premiership I think we made a real statement of intent by hammering Brigade. I won the toss both days which was probably massive on Saturday on a spinning wicket, although I think the Brigade batsmen gave their wickets away a bit too cheaply.
“Sunday was another massive win for us and another Senior Cup final to look forward to, with in my opinion the two best supported clubs in the North West.” That decider against Newbuildings is scheduled for Beechgrove at the end of July.
McClintock paid tribute to the influence of former Irish international Gary Neely, who despite being in his 50th year, continues to be a real thorn in the side of batsmen in the region.
“Gary Neely is massive for us,” added McClintock. “He was rested to keep him fresh for Sunday where he bowled unreal. I think Gary is vital for us - the man gives 100 percent every time he plays. It's easy to forget that he is almost 50 years of age.”
Tonight, Donemana travel to Ardmore, hoping to make the final of the Faughan Valley. “It should be a big game at Ardmore. We have a few players missing but we will give 100 percent and try to reach the T20 final as well.”
