Letterkenny fought back strongly on the second day of the League One final to run out convincing 105-run winners over Brigade at Beechgrove.

Resuming Day two 30 runs in arrears, Letterkenny openers Gopi Siva (46) and Vignesh Ethiraj (36) soon knocked off the deficit and began building a challenging target as they shared an opening stand of 91 in 13 overs.

There were cameos from Riyaz Babu (28), Raghuveer Velagapudi (26) and Rammohan Goud-Sama (23) in their total of 190 all out.

Charlie Gault and Ewan Wilson each picked up four wickets for the Beechgrove side.

Set 161 to lift the cup, Brigade's innings started badly - Jack Hall bowled second ball - and got worse as they crashed to 53 for 9.

A heavy downpour then threatened to deny Letterkenny the cup - the ludicrous situation of the first innings lead being the deciding factor.

Thankfully, to their credit the Brigade groundstaff of Graeme, Mervyn et al showed remarkable honesty in mopping up quickly and efficiently, meaning the match was able to resume 70 minutes later at 5.13pm, saving a potentially embarrassing situation for the North West.

Back to the drawing board I hope for the remaining two-innings finals.

15 balls later, Letterkenny were celebrating as Mo Hussain edged Goud-Sama behind to the impressive Gopi Siva.

Wasiq Riaz was named Man-of-the-Match for his eight wickets across the two innings, pipping Vignesh Ethiraj and Brigade captain Andrew Baggley.
