Sam O’Mahony’s remarkable return of 10-13 for Templepatrick at Lurgan this weekend could be a NCU record.

Research into ‘all tens’ have traced more than sixty in Ireland, with the previous best in the NCU being William Kirkpatrick’s remarkable figures of 16-10-14-10 for Dunmurry v Cliftonville in 1950.

The cheapest analysis was recorded by a Wesley College schoolboy in Dublin. Young R Kirkwood took 10-3 against High School, who were dismissed for 4 just over a century ago in 1922.

And Ray Stapleton, stalwart of the Garda CC, took 10-6 off 12 overs against CYM in the final of the Junior Cup at the Civil Service ground in Dublin in 1998.

The cheapest ten-wicket haul I’ve come across in the North-West was 10-15 by Jamie Doey of Crindle against Killyclooney 2nds in the Qualifying 2 Cup in 2013.

But my favourite of all these economical wipeouts was recorded in the early years of the last century, when Kit Doyle took 10-11 for the South Dublin Junior XI against its North Dublin counterparts in a trial match to select a Junior interpro side. Kit, pictured holding the bat, was my grand-uncle.

Update:

Wylie McKinty and Roger Bell have advised that Robin Beggs of Carrick took 10 for 11 against Templepatrick in 1985, while Billy McCart of Millpark took 10 for 14 against Carrick in the mid-70s.
