Scotland's distant hopes of making the semi-finals of the Women's T20 World Cup have been dealt a blow by a defeat against a strong West Indies side today in Dubai.
Scotland captain captain Kathryn Bryce won the toss and chose to bat first at a Dubai International Cricket Stadium with only slightly more atmosphere than it had at the crowd-free 2021 men's tournament.

Openers Saskia Horley and Sarah Bryce both fell within the first three overs of the Scotland innings, before a 46 run partnership for the third wicket between Kathryn Bryce and Ailsa Lister.
That partnership took up almost half of the overs available to Scotland though before Lister was out for 26. Bryce was out for 25 two overs later and there were no more contributions of note before the Scotland innings concluded on 99-8 from their 20 overs.
Both West Indian openers - Hayley Matthews and Stafanie Taylor - were dismissed in single figures, as was number four Shemaine Campbelle, but knocks of 31 from 18 balls by Qiana Joseph and an unbeaten 28 from 15 balls by Deandra Dottin went a long way to securing the win for the West Indies.
Dottin finished the match off in the 12th over of the run chase by hitting six, four and six in consecutive deliveries to secure the six wicket victory.
Scotland next play on Wednesday when they take on South Africa, whilst West Indies wait until Thursday for their next match when they come up against Bangladesh.
