After a 3-0 series defeat by Nepal in a T20I series, a ten wicket defeat against Scotland in the first match of this CWC League 2 tri-series and the subsequent chaos that saw Stuart Law sacked as head coach barely six months into his tenure, few would have expected USA to bounce back so quickly.

But bounce back they did, beating Nepal by three wickets in a closely fought affair at Grand Prarie Stadium near Dallas.

Put into bat by USA captain Monank Patel, Nepal started their innings with a 98 run partnership between Anil Sah and Aasif Sheikh. Sheikh was the first man out having scored 52, with Sah following soon afterwards for 56.

Aarif Sheikh and captain Rohit Paudel added 56 for the fourth wicket before the former was out for 37, whilst Paudel went on to reach 96 before he was bowled by Saurabh Netravalkar, the first of two wickets for USA's Super Over hero against Pakistan during the World Cup earlier this year.

Nosthush Kenjige was the pick of the USA bowlers with 4-52 as Nepal were bowled out for 286, the last wicket falling from the last delivery of their innings.

USA's reply started poorly with Andries Gous out for one run in the second over, but a 161 run partnership between Shayan Jahangir and Monank Patel made USA favourites.

That partnership ended when Patel was out for 62, whilst Jahangir went on to score 104 form 97 balls, his highest ODI score before he was the third man out. That dismissal sparked something of a collapse as USA went from 179-2 to 197-6 in 4.4 overs with the game swinging back the way of the visitors. Kushal Bhurtel took all four of those wickets.

The recovery was led by Harmeet Singh and Shadley van Schalkwyk who added 71 for the seventh wicket before Singh was out for 57. Van Schalkwyk then guided his team home, hitting the fourth ball of the final over for six to secure a three wicket win.

There will be questions for Nepal captain Rohit Paudel about why he didn't bring Kushal Bhurtel - the leading wicket-taker - back into the attack during the closing overs when he still had four overs in hand, but they won't have long to wait before their next match as they take on Scotland on Tuesday. USA next play - also against Scotland - on Thursday.
