Ruhan Pretorius and Lara Maritz were the big winners at the NCU Awards night held at Stormont.

Woodvale all-rounder Pretorius won the Premier League Cricketer of the Year, batter, and all-rounder awards, while Holywood star Maritz picked up Women's Batter, Bowler and All-Rounder prizes.

Pretorius had a season to remember at Ballygomartin Road, hitting five centuries on his way to 1173 runs, while also picking up 35 wickets.

"It has been a very pleasing and proud year for myself especially after all that went on in my private life," said Pretorius.

"It's great to have been so successful and it's a great testament to know that hard work will always succeed. I definitely cashed in at the right times.

"Everyone strives for perfection and I think I can even do better next year. I have enjoyed a helluva year, and that can't be taken away from me. The goal would be to win team trophies as well. The ideal goal would be for me to replicate or improve the year I just had while winning trophies.

"I would give away all my personal prizes for Woodvale to have won a team trophy, having come close in the Premier League and two cup semi-finals. It's always nice to be noticed and recognised for personal success. These trophies are very much an acknowledgement of the hard work I've put in over the year."

Pretorius still has ambitions to represent Ireland at senior level, having previously played for the Wolves following his residency qualification in 2022.

"It was nice to carry my club form into the interpro competitions where I performed well. I'm showing that I still have dreams to play for Ireland. Every other country picks players on merit, and it's still my aim to play at the highest level possible."

Fellow South African Maritz has been capped 31 times for Ireland, making her debut as a teenager in 2017. her move to play in the NCU as well as Leinster has reaped dividends for her and the Seapark club.

"I was delighted to be recognised at the NCU awards with three prizes," said Maritz. "Holywood has invested in some very good resources - Yolandi from South Africa was fantastic and she did some amazing work at the club.

"The team is definitely going upwards and the co-partnership we have with Balbrigaan helps the girls play a higher standard of cricket which is great for all concerned. They get the opportunity to see and play against high quality players on a regular basis.

"I would highly recommend that clubs in the NCU also invest in an overseas player as it only develops the league, making it better and stronger."

Amongst the other award winners on the night were Bangor's Johnny Parker who picked up the Coach of the Year, Young Cricketer of the Year Ben Walsh, while Jack Maxwell won a special award for taking two hat-tricks.

Stephen Warke, Anne Linehan and Marty Moreland were the special inductees into the NCU Hall of Fame.
