There was a double boost for Irish cricket with nominations for Freya Sargent and Orla Prendergast in the annual ICC Awards.

Sargent is one of four players competing for the Emerging Women's Cricketer of the Year, with the Clontarf off-spinner taking 20 wickets at 36.95 in the 20 matches she played in both formats in 2024.

She had best figures of 3-29, and also scored 42 runs at 10.50, top-scoring with 16 in the limited opportunities she got.

The 18-year-old is part of the Ireland Under 19 squad that will play in the World Cup next month in Malaysia.

Pembroke all-rounder Prendergast is shortlisted in the T20I Cricketer of the Year.

The 22-year-old enjoyed all-round success in T20 cricket, taking 18 wickets at just 11.94, as well as scoring 473 runs at 39.42 at an impressive strike rate of 132.87.

Her overall figures for the year saw her play 30 matches, taking 30 wickets at 15.93, with a best-bowling effort of 4 for 22.

She was also Ireland's leading run scorer making 904 runs ar 36.16 (4 fifties, 1 hundred).
