It was an end of an era on Tuesday night as NW President Connie McAllister stood down after a decade at the helm.

The ever-popular Ardmore man was a dedicated President, fulfilling his duties with a sense of professionalism, pride and humour.

He thanked the NW for the opportunity to act as President.

"I have enjoyed my time as President immensely," said McAllister.

"It's been a great honour to represent the Union throughout that time, and it's been fantastic to travel far and wide.

"It's something of a changing of the guard with a new President John Semple and Chairman, Raymond Mitchell. I wish them all the best in their roles and as good cricket people I know they will be great ambassadors and assets to the NW.

"I first met Raymond in 1978 when we toured Israel and have become firm friends ever since. He lives for cricket and is universally admired. It's an exciting time for cricket in the region and hopefully that continues for many years to come."

Raymond Mitchell paid tribute to Connie's service and wished him well after stepping down.

"As incoming Chairman can I wish our retiring President Connie McAllister all the best and hope he has many years to enjoy the game.

"I used to look forward to the craic when i met Connie whether at Newbuildings when i was Chairman or at a local cricket match - what a sense of humour he has.

"When Connie and his good friend George Brolly came to Killymallaght they were great umpires but they also loved the after match craic too.

"I hope Connie has a well deserved long and happy retirement - he is a great friend both on and off the field."

Those views were echoed by incoming Board member John Bratton who also paid tribute to Connie's work over the past ten years.

"I would like to put on record my thanks and on behalf of Glendermott to Connie for his efforts as our NW President.

"He travelled far and wide and was always a friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable presence at grounds.

"Together with Lawrence Moore they made sure to be present at all the cup and league presentations."

We wish him well and hopefully see him again this season around the grounds.
