The home side, missing holidaying skipper Johnny Robinson who is currently in Greece, were bowled out for just 113 in 31.3 overs after Strabane’s disciplined attack kept the pressure on throughout. Fox Lodge struggled to build partnerships, although Travis Nicholl provided some resistance with a counter-attacking 37. Nicholl cleared the ropes four times in an entertaining knock that briefly threatened to shift momentum, but he received little support from the rest of the batting line-up. Muhammad Mohsin led the Strabane bowling effort with impressive figures of 3-17, while Ryan Gallagher also struck key blows with 3-23. Vadivel Murthy chipped in with 2-49 as the visitors maintained control from start to finish. Strabane’s reply suffered an early setback when skipper Kevin Gallagher departed for a single, giving Fox Lodge a glimmer of hope. However, that was as good as it got for the hosts as Rhys Logue and Aaron Gillespie took command with a superb unbroken century partnership for the second wicket. Logue finished unbeaten on 57, striking three fours and four sixes in an aggressive innings, while Gillespie played the perfect supporting role with 42 not out from an innings containing six boundaries and a six. Their stand guided Strabane to 114-1 in just 23.1 overs and secured a maximum points win that keeps them firmly on top of the table.

The home side piled up an imposing 324 all out in 49.2 overs thanks largely to a devastating third-wicket partnership between Peat Salmon and Jared Wilson. The pair added 180 in superb fashion after early wickets had given Bready some encouragement. Salmon dominated the attack with a breathtaking 143 from just 94 deliveries, smashing 11 fours and 13 sixes in one of the innings of the season. Wilson provided the perfect foil with an equally aggressive 84, striking 10 fours and four sixes as the hosts took complete control. Young left-armer Travis Faulkner also impressed with 2-44. Bready were hampered by the absence of professional Josh van Heerden from bowling duties. The chase started brightly as Ben Campbell’s 33 helped put on 62 for the opening wicket with Kenzie Hall. Although David Rankin fell cheaply, Hall and Van Heerden launched an impressive counterattack, adding 85 in just nine overs. Hall made 54 with three fours and three sixes, while Van Heerden blasted a 36-ball 58 featuring nine boundaries and two maximums. There was drama right to the end at The Boathole as Coleraine edged out St Johnston by two wickets in a hard-fought Premiership clash. At one stage an early finish looked inevitable after the Bannsiders’ opening bowlers ripped through the home batting line-up. Gareth Burns was the chief destroyer with an excellent 5-41, while left-armer Stephen Hutchinson claimed 2-25 as St Johnston slumped to 65 for 8. However, the Donegal side showed real determination to fight back into the contest. Skipper David Anthony made a stubborn 13, while Ryan McAuley anchored the recovery with an unbeaten 42. Scott Devenney also dug in as valuable late-order runs lifted St Johnston to 133 for 9 from their 50 overs, giving the bowlers something to defend. Coleraine soon discovered conditions were no easier for batting as the Saints attack kept things tight throughout the chase. Mark Pollock struck twice for 19 runs, while Ryan McAuley completed an impressive all-round display with 2-24. Nathan Cole and Graeme McCarter both picked up two wickets as the game swung back and forth. With the match finely balanced entering the closing stages, Matthew Hutchinson held his nerve superbly. His unbeaten 33, featuring six boundaries, proved decisive as he shared a crucial unbroken 27-run stand for the ninth wicket with Gareth Burns, who finished 8 not out. It completed an eventful day for Burns, who was earlier penalised five runs for applying saliva to the ball, while St Johnston were left still searching for their first Premiership win of the season.

Gary McClintock scored 73 (CricketEurope)
Champions Brigade suffered a damaging three-wicket defeat to Donemana in a tense Premiership encounter at Beechgrove that went right down to the penultimate over. Batting first, Brigade posted 216 for 8 from their 50 overs with David Barr leading the way with a battling 64 that included five boundaries. Ifty Hussain added a composed 44, while Scott Macbeth chipped in with 34 in an innings built on steady partnerships rather than outright acceleration. Awais Zafar was the pick of the Donemana attack with 3-32 as the visitors kept Brigade from pulling away in the closing overs. Donemana’s chase began disastrously as Brigade seized early control. Trent McKeegan had DJ Dougherty and Ray Curry caught behind by Simon Olphert off successive balls, before Awais Zafar shuffled across his stumps and was trapped lbw by Ryan Macbeth, leaving the visitors reeling at 17 for 3. Jamie Huey countered impressively with 46, striking six fours and a six, as he and Gary McClintock rebuilt the innings with a fourth-wicket stand of 69. Yet when more wickets fell and Donemana slipped to 121 for 6, Brigade looked firm favourites to close out victory. McClintock, however, produced the decisive innings of the match. The Donemana skipper struck 73, including eight fours and a six, and shared a match-defining seventh-wicket stand of 64 with Levi Dougherty. Even after McClintock departed with 32 still needed, Dougherty remained calm, finishing unbeaten on 42 alongside Luke Marillier’s run-a-ball 21 not out to guide Donemana home and keep their title challenge firmly on course.

Fox Lodge made it two wins from two with a comfortable seven-wicket victory over Coleraine at Ballymagorry after Levi Kerr’s five-wicket haul set up the chase. Coleraine’s innings never recovered from the nightmare start of losing professional Louren Steenkamp first ball to teenager Swarnim Jha. The South African had struck an unbeaten century on Saturday, but cricket proved a great leveller as he departed for a golden duck. Despite regular wickets, Strabane dug in through Allen Patterson, whose resilient unbeaten 31 anchored the innings, while overseas professional Muhammad Mohsin contributed 24 valuable runs in the middle order. Donemana would have expected to chase the modest target comfortably, but Strabane’s bowlers produced a sensational display full of discipline and intensity. The visitors never settled as wickets tumbled steadily throughout the reply. Vadivel Moorthy was the star with the ball, claiming a magnificent 5-32, while Mohsin completed a superb all-round performance by taking 4-14 to rip the heart out of the Donemana batting line-up. Runs proved hard to come by throughout the day, with only ten fours and one six struck in the entire Bready innings. South African professional Josh van Heerden anchored the effort with a patient 51 from 77 balls, while Kyle Magee contributed 25 in support as Bready closed on 145-5. Ryan Macbeth was the standout bowler, finishing with impressive figures of 2-17 to keep the scoring under control. Donemana beat St Johnston by 4 wickets (DLS).
The Holm, 16 May.
St Johnston 185-6 (29 overs; Jack Macbeth 57, Conor Olphert 36, David Lapsley 32, Mark Pollock 32; Awais Zafar 2-20, Gary McClintock 2-47)
Donemana 190-6 (26.2 overs; Gary McClintock 62, Raymond Curry 59, Levi Dougherty 26*; Nathan Cole 3-18, Scott Devenney 2-34)
Donemana edged a rain-affected contest against St Johnston after surviving a mid-innings collapse to chase down 190 in 26.2 overs. Reduced to 29 overs a side, the Saints made an impressive start through Jack Macbeth and Mark Pollock, who shared an opening stand of 77 in 12 overs. Macbeth led the way with an accomplished 57 from 61 balls, striking seven fours and two sixes, while Pollock added 32. The innings accelerated late on thanks to Irish international Conor Olphert, better known for his seam bowling, who blasted 36 from just 21 deliveries with three fours and three sixes. Alongside David Lapsley’s 32, he added 58 in six overs as the Donegal side posted 185-6. Awais Zafar and Donemana skipper Gary McClintock both claimed two wickets. Donemana’s reply began shakily with Jamie Huey and Zafar dismissed cheaply, but McClintock and Raymond Curry transformed the chase with a stunning 106-run partnership in only 12 overs. McClintock smashed 62 from 48 balls, while Curry hammered 59 from 43 deliveries. Nathan Cole and Scott Devenney sparked panic by reducing Donemana from comfort to chaos as four wickets fell for five runs, but brothers Levi and Ricky-Lee Dougherty steadied nerves with an unbroken stand of 45 to seal victory.

Foyleview Arena, 16 May.
Fox Lodge 198-5 (32 overs; Gayan Maneeshan 87, Jason Milligan 53, Charlie Simpson 33; Ross Hunter 2-40)
Newbuildings 184-9 (32 overs; Ross Dougherty 78*, Peat Salmon 49, Josh Wilson 25; Levi Kerr 3-32, Swarnim Jha 2-47) (Target 214 in 32 overs)
Gayan Maneeshan and Levi Kerr (Aaron Heywood)
Fox Lodge continued their strong form with a 29-run DLS victory over Newbuildings in a rain-affected 32-over contest. The Foxies built their innings around a superb third-wicket partnership of 119 in just 16 overs between Sri Lankan professional Gayan Maneeshan and Jason Milligan. Maneeshan’s prolific early-season form showed no sign of slowing as he hammered 87 from 70 balls, striking 12 fours and three sixes. Milligan provided excellent support with a powerful 53 that included four boundaries and three maximums, while Charlie Simpson laid the early foundations with 33 featuring five fours. Skipper Ross Hunter picked up two wickets for the hosts. Set a revised target of 214, Newbuildings collapsed to 92-7 despite an explosive 28-ball 49 from Peat Salmon before he was removed by Johnny “Bap” Robinson. Ross Dougherty battled gamely with an unbeaten 78 and shared a half-century stand with Josh Wilson, but the required rate proved beyond them. Levi Kerr claimed three wickets, while teenager Swarnim Jha took two in Fox Lodge’s comfortable win.
Brigade lost to Newbuildings. Forfeit after unable to produce DLS sheet.
Beechgrove, 10 May.
Newbuildings 232-8 (50 overs; J Dunn 66, Ryan Hunter 61, P Salmon 32, Jared Wilson 29; JP MIllar 5-34)
Brigade 160-4 (38.4 overs; D Barr 80*)
Beechgrove (CricketEurope)
THERE was a controversial conclusion to the NW Premiership clash at Beechgrove between defending champions Brigade and expected challengers Newbuildings. Chasing 233, the contest was evenly poised with David Barr’s unbeaten 80 having the hosts 160 for 4 in the 39th over when a shower stopped play. Brigade failed to produce a DLS sheet which calculates revised targets in the event of stoppages, with the umpires automatically awarding the match to Newbuildings. It’s a bitter pill to swallow for Brigade, but Newbuildings will care little as they get their season up and running. Earlier, a century stand between Jason Dunn (66) and Ryan Hunter (61) laid an excellent platform before Jamie Millar’s five-wicket haul saw them falter to 232 for eight.

Magheramason, 25 April.
Bready 228-8 (50 overs; D Scanlon 59*, J van Heerden 33, B Campbell 29, C Downey 27; M Mohsin 3-50, M Aggarwal 2-25, V Moorthy 2-35)
Strabane 222-3 (39.4 overs; A Gillespie 120*, R Logue 70; D Rankin 2-18)
Aaron Gillespie and Rhys Logue (CricketEurope)
Aaron Gillespie's brilliant hundred steered Strabane to an emphatic seven wickets win at Bready in the only game to go ahead in the Premiership. He hit 9 fours and eight sixes in his unbeaten 120, sharing a match winning second wicket partnership of 183 in 28 overs with Rhys Logue who proved the perfect foil. Logue's fine 70 included seven fours and one maximum. David Rankin took two wickets to get Bready a bonus point but it was scant consolation on a dominant Strabane display. Earlier, wickets for Mohammed Mohsin (3-50), Manav Aggarwal (2-25) and Vadivel Moorthy (2-35) reduced the hosts to 122 for 7, but David Scanlon, not for the first time, rallied the tail as he thumped five sixes in an unbeaten 44-ball 59, putting on 106 in the last 14 overs with Charlie Downey (27) and Nathan McCombe (19*). A final total of 228 for 8 looked competitive - but it wasn't.
