Orla Prendergast and Jane Maguire spearheaded a superb bowling performance in Kathmandu on Friday that delivered a stunning 98-run victory over the Netherlands that all but ensured Ireland will qualify for the T20 World Cup.

Amy Hunter and captain Gary Lewis gave the Ireland innings a sound start with a partnership of 41 before the skipper fell for 20 — her lowest return of six at the tournament.

Hunter, back from injury, hit the game’s only maximum at the Mulpani ground and when she was bowled for 34 left-hander Leah Paul picked up the pace with a rapid 39 from 24 balls that included six fours.

A total of 143-9 should have been within range for the previously unbeaten Dutch but their top order was swept away by Prendergast and Maguire, and they lost six wickets for five runs to slump to 26-8.

The Player-of-the-Match award went to Prendergast for her four-over spell of 3-13 which was possibly tough on Maguire who took 3-9 and contributed to a run out as the Netherlands were bowled out for 45.

The Girls in Green will qualify if they avoid a ginormous defeat in their final game by minnows Thailand on Sunday.
