In the second part of our series where we ask personalities closely associated with North-West clubs to select their all-time club XI's, it's the turn of Glendermott and their long-time Chairman and ex-player Davy Watson to give us his thoughts on who takes the field for the Rectory side.

2026 marks a special year for the club, who are  celebrating their centenary anniversary. Davy has been Chairman for the last 26 years and he has selected players who he thinks have helped and played a part over the years.

As with all these type of selections with so many to choose from Davy has opted for two XI's with a first-team squad and a second XI of reserves.

1st Glendermott XI
1. Freddie Glenn
2. Charlie McCrum
3. Jim Campell
4. Hasan Raza (pro)
5. Stephen Smyth
6. Shahid Iqbal
7. Gordon Montgomery
8. Trevor Britton
9. John Watson
10. Maurice Ferguson
11. Ronnie Parke

2nd GCC XI

1. Bob Robinson
2. Mitchell Caldwell
3. Ronnie Taylor
4. Alan Johnson
5. Garth Watson
6. Ben Mills
7. Billy Godfrey
8. Jason Brown
9. Stephen Doherty
10.Stephen Montgomery
11. Lexie Dunn.

I could have picked a GCC international overseas professional  XI and included many more names who have came to Glendermott and have done well. There are also players of the calibre of Gary Neely, Johnny Thompson and others who were all very good, talented cricketers.

For my choice of GCC 12th Man duties, it could only be  one-man on standby when a injury occurred on the field, that would be JB he was called out quite a lot if I mind.

Before submitting the selections it was pointed out by my son Garth Watson who felt he should of made the 1XI but with his uncle John already in the team I would have been accused of nepotism.

I'm looking forward to a busy summer of cricket and anniversary celebrations for the club. We have a Civic Reception Legends match, Community day and finishing with a Gala Dinner.
