RUSH

  • Captain: Nathan McGuire
  • Overseas professional: Isaac Bird
  • Players in: Isaac Bird
  • Players out: Etesham Ahmed

Rush go into the season with more or less the same personnel as last season.

There is one notable addition though with Irish passport holding New Zealander Isaac Bird making his way to Kenure, after a very impressive debut season in Ireland at Ballyspallen. Whether he can replicate that form in the ultra-competitive Leinster top flight could well determine the trajectory of Rush's year.

Nathan McGuire has been entrusted with the captain's armband, and he will be hoping it brings out the best in the naturally free-scoring batsman.

"Rush Cricket Club enter the 2026 season with a settled and familiar squad, strengthened by the return of an overseas player in Isaac Bird," said a Rush spokesperson.

"The absence of an overseas was keenly felt throughout 2025. His addition is a major boost for the side and, following some strong team performances last season, could prove to be the missing piece as Rush aim to push on this year.

"Leadership duties fall to Nathan McGuire, who takes over the captaincy after previously leading the side in 2023. McGuire brings a wealth of experience to the role and will be expected to lead from the front, both tactically and with the bat.

"The bowling attack continues to be built around the experienced opening pair of Allan Eastwood and Jared Barnes, supported by Asher Abbasi and AJ Neary. A well-balanced spin department follows, featuring captain McGuire, the dangerous Nasir Totakhil, and the versatile Isaac Bird.

"With the bat, Rush retains a strong and aggressive top order. The McGee brothers Jack and Finn finished last season in excellent form and should carry plenty of confidence into the new campaign, alongside Abidullah Taniwal. One young player to watch this season is promising bowler Conor Butterly, who will be given plenty of opportunity to impress at first-team level."

It promises to be an exciting season for Rush who will be a match for any side on their day, especially on their home patch.
