There was sad news over the weekend following the death of Noel Giltinan.

Noel was a fine bowler who represented Munster on 38 occasions between 1966 and 1980. He took 44 wickets at exactly 28 with a best-bowling return of 5-57 against the North West in 1970.

He also played for Munster in their famous1969 drawn game against a Pakistan International Airways side packed full of international including Hanif Mohammed.

Noel captained Cork County in 1991 and was pre-deceased by his brother Dermot, who also represented Munster.

"Noel was a fine cricketer and a stalwart of the club," said Cork County on social media.

"A kind, approachable, and committed clubman, he followed in the great Giltinan tradition at the Mardyke and will be greatly missed by all his friends and former teammates.

"Our deepest sympathies to his wife Stephanie, son Tom, sister Deirdre, and the wider Giltinan family."

May his gentle soul, rest in peace.
