Merrion claimed a hard-fought 17-run victory over Clontarf  in the Leinster Women’s Premiership despite an unbeaten century stand in reply from the visitors.

The foundation for Merrion’s success was laid by Irish international Leah Paul, who produced a classy innings of 80 from just 52 balls.

The left-hander dominated the Merrion total of 170 for 8 with a fluent knock featuring 11 boundaries, combining timing and placement to keep the scoreboard moving throughout the innings.

Lucy Barry and Sinead Thomson each picked up two wickets for Clontarf but struggled to contain Paul’s attacking strokeplay.

Clontarf’s chase was built around an excellent unbeaten 82 from overseas professional Robyn Searle, whose 63-ball innings included 10 fours. She shared an opening stand of 50 with Christina Coulter Reilly and then added 103 for the second wicket alongside Genevieve Morrissey, who made 37 not out.

However, despite losing only one wicket, the required acceleration never arrived and Clontarf closed on 153 for 1.

Balbriggan powered to a convincing 65-run victory over Rush thanks to a magnificent unbeaten innings from Irish international Lara Maritz.

Recently recalled to the Super Series squad, Maritz underlined her class with a breathtaking 98 not out from just 56 balls, falling narrowly short of a deserved century.

Her superb knock featured 13 fours and three sixes and formed the backbone of Balbriggan’s imposing total of 182 for 7.

South African overseas professional Julia Hoal provided early momentum with a rapid 32 from 17 deliveries, striking five boundaries, while Madison Landsman added an important 23. Rush skipper Ellie McGee impressed with the ball, taking 3 for 23, while Rebecca Lowe claimed two wickets.

Rush never seriously threatened the target despite a lively 31 from McGee. Balbriggan’s bowlers maintained control throughout the chase, with Indie Harper taking 2 for 12 and Landsman capping a fine all-round display with figures of 2 for 21 as Rush closed on 117 for 6.

Leinster produced a dominant all-round display to defeat The Hills by 69 runs after controlling the match from the outset.

Leinster’s innings was built around an excellent opening partnership of 97 between Rebecca Rolfe and Australian teenager Alex Sheedy.

Former Irish international Rolfe anchored the innings superbly with an unbeaten 60 from 56 balls, striking three fours and rotating the strike cleverly throughout.

Sheedy provided strong support with 42 from 48 deliveries, hitting two boundaries as the pair laid the perfect foundation for a competitive total.

Late acceleration came from Ava Canning, whose unbeaten 17 included the only six of the innings, helping Leinster close on 142 for 2 from their 20 overs. Vanesa Scollard claimed the only wicket to fall.

The Hills never got going in reply and were dismissed for just 73 in 16.1 overs. Lara McBride top-scored with 19, but Leinster’s bowlers shared the wickets impressively. Aisling O’Kelly led the attack with 3 for 13, while Orla Bagnall and Katie Dagostino both claimed two wickets in a convincing victory.

Phoenix eased to a seven-wicket victory over Malahide after restricting the visitors to a below-par total before completing a composed chase.

Malahide suffered an immediate setback when overseas player Meg Thompson was bowled by Alice Tector in the opening over, a blow from which the innings never fully recovered.

Anna Kerrison top-scored with 31 while Gemma Sargent added an unbeaten 29, but Phoenix kept control throughout as Malahide stuttered to 121 for 6 from their 20 overs. Darcey Dalwood was the standout bowler with impressive figures of 3 for 18.

Phoenix’s reply was anchored superbly by Irish international Tector, whose unbeaten 48 guided her side home with more than two overs to spare.

She built the chase steadily, sharing useful 30-run partnerships with Siúin Woods, Georgina Dempsey and Nebedha Saravanarajan.

Woods contributed 20 in a calm and measured pursuit. Arlene Kelly, Kerrison and Sargent each picked up a wicket, but Phoenix were rarely troubled.
