Leinster Lightning will meet North West Warriors in the Inter-provincial Cup final on July 23 after Lightning ended Northern Knights' chances with a six wickets victory at Lisburn.

They completed their chase of 289 in exactly 40 overs to get another bonus point, which they didn’t need but highlighted the dominance of their victory.

Stephen Doheny fell one short of his List A best 129 when he was bowled by Tom Mayes with Lightning just 10 runs short of victory.

Doheny had shared a Lightning record first wicket partnership of 165 with Tim Tector who was caught behind for 84 but that only let in in-form batter Chris de Frietas who passed  50 for the third successive match.

Doheny faced 116 balls and hit 12 fours and six sixes, four of the maximums coming after  he brought up his century.

Knights had also enjoyed a good start with the returning Paul Stirling, in his first innings for five months,  hitting 61 from 68 balls with five fours and four sixes.

James McCollum  was top scorer with 73 and Kian Hilton chipped  in with 43 from just 25 balls (five fours, three sixes) but after his dismissal, Knights managed just 33 in the next six overs and were bowled out with 16 balls unused.

Knights captain Matthew Humphreys was also back in action but he injured a shoulder early in the Lightning innings and left the field, unable to bowl, to further handicap his side.
