Irish international Jordan Neill produced a spectacular 193 as the Emerging Knights took command of their two-day Future Series match against the Emerging Warriors on day one.

Continuing his return to fitness after injury, Neill transformed the contest with a breathtaking 105-ball innings containing 16 fours and 16 sixes. He arrived with the Knights 161 for four and unleashed a sustained assault that carried the total beyond 400 before he was dismissed four balls from the declaration.

The Knights closed their first innings on 414 for eight from 75 overs, having also received important contributions from Ryan Hunter, Seb Yeates and James West. West struck nine boundaries in making 45, while Yeates compiled a patient 50 from 95 deliveries.

Hunter added 65 from 104 balls and shared a valuable fifth-wicket stand of 78 with Neill. Marko Bates then made 25 as Neill accelerated dramatically, dominating a sixth-wicket partnership of 124 and giving the Warriors’ attack little respite.

Robbie Millar was the most successful bowler, claiming three for 41 from six overs, while Scott Macbeth returned two for 52. Josh Wilson eventually ended Neill’s remarkable innings, having him caught by Mo Hussain with the score on 412.

The Warriors faced 21 overs before stumps and reached 89 for three, still 325 runs behind. Hassan Shahid was caught behind off Finn Lutton for nine, but Mo Hussain responded with an attacking 47 from 49 balls, hitting eight fours.

Carson McCullough then strengthened the Knights’ position with two wickets in three deliveries. He trapped Hussain lbw before removing Swarnim Jha without scoring, finishing the day with figures of two for five from four overs.

Gavin Roulston remained unbeaten on 20, alongside Luke Marillier on two, leaving the Warriors with considerable work to do on the second and final day.
