Balbriggan inflicted Merrion’s first league defeat of the season and gained a measure of revenge for their recent cup final loss with an emphatic eight-wicket victory.
Merrion posted 161 for six from their 20 overs, led by Annabel Squires’ 49 and a rapid 35 from 21 balls by Bella Armstrong. Aoife Hayden added 18 late on, but Julia Hoal’s superb four for 11, including a maiden, restricted the champions. Courtney Gounden claimed two for 25.
Balbriggan made light work of the target, reaching 163 for two in only 16.3 overs.
Lara Maritz anchored the chase with an unbeaten 57 from 41 deliveries, striking nine fours. Madison Landsman matched her total but needed only 29 balls, hammering nine boundaries and two sixes during a destructive second-wicket partnership of 77.
Gounden contributed 21 at the top of the order before Hoal completed an excellent all-round display with an unbeaten 17 from ten balls.
The Hills secured their first win of the season with an emphatic eight-wicket victory over Phoenix.
Phoenix posted 110 for four from their 20 overs, built around Aditiba Chudasama’s fluent 48 from 46 balls, including seven boundaries. Zara Craig added 15 and Nevedha Saravanarajan made 20, but Eve Meachen’s three for 25 kept the scoring in check. Natalie Moore claimed the other wicket.
The Hills made light work of the chase, reaching 113 for two in just 13.3 overs.
Lara McBride produced the match-winning innings, striking an unbeaten 65 from only 44 deliveries with 11 fours. After Aimee Scollard fell for two, McBride shared a decisive second-wicket stand of 89 with Meachen.
Meachen followed her bowling contribution with 30 from 31 balls, hitting five boundaries, before being dismissed with victory in sight.
Matilda McCartney then joined McBride to complete a convincing win and give The Hills a welcome first success of the campaign.
Pembroke cruised to a nine-wicket victory over Leinster after a dominant bowling display restricted their opponents to 78 for nine.
Leinster were in immediate trouble as Jenny Sparrow and Ella McMahon both fell without scoring, while regular wickets prevented any meaningful recovery.
Alexandra Sheedy top-scored with 17, but only Orla Bagnall, Ava McCormack, Aisling O’Kelly and Sinead O’Shea added more than five.
Susie Whaley was the standout bowler, claiming four for 17 from her four overs. Mhairi Nicoll returned three for eight, including a maiden, while Marama Downes took two for six in an equally impressive spell.
Pembroke made light work of the chase, reaching 79 for one in only eight overs.
Whaley completed a superb all-round performance with an unbeaten 48 from 26 deliveries, striking nine fours. Izzy McLean added 14 before falling to Sheedy, while Downes finished eight not out as Pembroke wrapped up a comprehensive victory with 12 overs remaining.
Clontarf secured an emphatic 68-run victory over Malahide after an impressive batting display carried them to 175 for four.
Robyn Searle struck 35 from 28 balls, while Genevieve Morrissey added a fluent 31. Alice Walsh accelerated with 36 from 25 deliveries before Julie McNally finished the innings strongly, making an unbeaten 29 from 19 balls.
Anna Kerrison claimed two wickets for Malahide, with Emilia Tarbox taking the other.
Malahide’s reply never gathered sufficient momentum despite an unbeaten half-century from Freya Sargent. Sorcha O’Carolan Murphy fell without scoring, while Sarah Condron made 14 before being bowled by Annabel Walsh.
Sargent battled through the innings for 50 from 48 balls, hitting six fours, but wickets fell regularly around her.
Hannah Lee took two wickets in successive deliveries, while Sinead Thomson, Walsh and Morrissey also struck as Malahide were restricted to 107 for seven from their 20 overs.
