Scotland have named a refreshed 15-man squad for next month’s ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 series against Canada and the United Arab Emirates at Forthill.

Head coach Owen Dawkins has made three changes from the group that toured Nepal in May, handing Falkland’s Lyle Robertson his first senior call-up while recalling Zainullah Ihsan and Lancashire batter Michael Jones.

Robertson’s selection follows strong performances for Falkland, Scotland A and the Caledonian Highlanders. The young player previously represented Scotland at the ICC Under-19 World Cup in the Caribbean and has continued to progress through the domestic pathway.

Ihsan returns after impressing for GHK and Western Warriors, while Jones is available again after missing the previous two tours because of county commitments.

Michael Leask has been omitted, with Dawkins indicating that other spin options are expected to play more prominent roles during the series. Brad Currie and Owen Gould were unavailable through injury.

Scotland enter the six-match tri-series joint second in the League 2 standings alongside the Netherlands, five points behind leaders USA. The fixtures will be their final matches in the competition, increasing the importance of a strong finish on home soil.

Dawkins believes the squad can build on encouraging displays in Nepal and says preparations have left the players clear about the style of cricket they want to produce.

The new head coach is also preparing for his first home series in charge and hopes strong crowds will attend at Forfarshire’s Forthill ground in Broughty Ferry.

Richie Berrington will captain a squad containing George Munsey, Brandon McMullen and Mark Watt.

Scotland begin against UAE on August 3 before facing Canada four days later. They meet UAE again on August 9 and complete their programme against Canada on August 13, with the visitors also playing each other twice during the series.
