The NCU Under-13s held their nerve to complete a thrilling two-wicket victory over Cleveland Schools, reaching a target of 214 with two overs to spare at the Barnard Castle Festival.

Cleveland’s 213 for six from 40 overs was dominated by a superb innings from Muhammad Sharjeel, who struck 14 fours in a magnificent 134 from 125 balls.

NCU’s reply began disastrously as Harry Fox ripped through the top order, reducing them to five for two before Oliver Campbell’s 23 ended at 29 for three.

Teddy McIlwaine and Freddie Robinson then transformed the contest with a superb fourth-wicket stand of 102. Bangor's McIlwaine struck six fours and a six in his 50 from 63 deliveries, while Instonians batter Robinson provided the greater impetus with 56 from 50 balls, including five boundaries.

Both fell in quick succession, leaving the game finely balanced, and Cleveland continued to chip away as the NCU slipped to 189 for seven and then 209 for eight.

However, the lower order kept its composure, adding the final runs without further loss to get over the line and seal an excellent victory.
