Newbuildings completed a season to remember as a convincing 97-run victory over relegated St Johnston secured the North West Premiership title and with it a superb treble.

In a match reduced to 40 overs, the champions made 246 for eight before dismissing the Donegal side for 149 in 33.3 overs to put the finishing touch to an outstanding campaign.

Mark Hanna gave Newbuildings the perfect platform, smashing 65 from just 42 balls with nine fours and three sixes. After Jason Dunn fell for four, Hanna added 42 with Ryan Hunter before his entertaining innings was ended by Mark Pollock.

Hunter then took over the anchor role, making 54 from 72 deliveries and sharing useful partnerships through the middle overs. Peat Salmon hit three sixes in his 21, while Ross Dougherty made 28 and Jared Wilson added an important 30 as Newbuildings pushed beyond 240.

Nathan Cole was the pick of the St Johnston attack with three for 45, while S Macbeth claimed two for 19 from six overs.

St Johnston's chase began disastrously when Jack Macbeth was caught and bowled by Gregory McFaul from the first delivery of the innings, and they were soon seven for two.

Michael Rankin and Subhan Shirzad staged a recovery before Jared Wilson removed Rankin for a battling 55 from 50 balls, having struck six fours and two sixes. Mark Pollock kept St Johnston's hopes alive with 43, including three sixes, but Newbuildings maintained control throughout.

Jared Wilson finished with three for 28, while Peat Salmon claimed three for 29 and McFaul two for 20 as St Johnston were bowled out with 39 balls unused.

The emphatic victory ensured Newbuildings finished the season as Premiership champions, adding the league crown to their earlier silverware and completing a memorable treble.
