Amsterdam Flames kept alive their hopes of a top three place at the end of the group stage by inflicting a first defeat of the tournament on Edinburgh Castle Rockers.

A spinning pitch proved a boon for New Zealander Michael Bracewell who took five for 12 in his four overs as the ETPL leaders collapsed from 77-2 in the eighth over to 118 all out in the 19th.

Ross Adair got them off to a fast start with 32 from 16 balls, with three fours and two sixes and Brandon McMullan hit 26 off 15 but only Mitchell Santner provided any late resistance as the wickets tumbled.

The Flames, by contrast, did much as they pleased with Steve Smith (25 off 27) happy to give opening partner Yuvraaj Samra the strike, the Canadian hitting 40 off just 26 balls with three fours and three sixes.

The Flames were 89 for one at halfway, just 30 short of their target and although Samra was out next ball, Jack Jarvis’ first, Bas de Leede, who hit the 500th four of the tournament to bring up the team 100, and Tim David eased them home with 31 balls to spare.

In contrast to his countryman, Santner finished  with figures of one for 31 from his four overs.
