Holywood 131-2 (17 overs; Erin Bond 47*, Madison Landsman 36, Nina Kerr 28*)
Holywood Women have one hand on the Premiership trophy after an emphatic eight-wicket victory over defending champions Waringstown in their top-of-the-table clash. The result leaves the Seapark side 12 points clear with three games remaining, with only CSNI or Lisburn now capable of catching them. Victory over Muckamore on Wednesday night will confirm Holywood as champions. Captain Madison Landsman was once again at the heart of their success, producing a remarkably economical spell of one for three, as Waringstown were restricted to 130 for four. Abbi Harrison made 34, Charlotte Lyons 30 and Naomi Matthews an unbeaten 32, but Landsman’s control ensured the visitors were never able to really break the shackles. Holywood’s success this season has been built largely around the runs of Landsman and Lara Maritz, but this victory also underlined the depth within their ranks. Landsman launched the chase with a rapid 21-ball 36 before Penny Speer removed her, while Maritz made just five. Thereafter Nina Kerr joined Erin Bond in an unbroken third-wicket stand of 72 from eight overs that carried the hosts comfortably home. Bond struck an unbeaten 47 from 43 balls (five fours), with Kerr finishing 28 not out as Holywood eased home with three overs to spare.

But with Topping continuing the charge with 83 from 53 (eight fours, six sixes) and Graham Hume hitting three of each in his 38 from 26, Waringstown soared past the home side’s total with more than 15 overs and six wickets to spare. Instonians had a century maker of their own in Cade Carmichael, who hit 15 fours and a six in his 112 and Andrew White and Shane Dadswell both added half centuries, the South African’s from just 41 balls, albeit twice as slow as Stolk. The defeat all but ends Instonians’ reign as league champions.

Waringstown centurion James McCollum (Ian Callender)
Waringstown bounced back from their shock defeat by Civil Service to keep their place at the top of the Premier League table with a 29 runs DLS victory over North Down at Comber. They were on the receiving end of a superb century by home professional Mike Erlank but when he was caught on the boundary with 38 needed off the last two overs the game was up for North Down. James McCollum had scored the first century of the day, exactly 100 from 98 balls with 11 fours and three sixes as Waringstown recovered from losing Steve Stolk and Adam Dennison with just five on the board to post 233 for seven in their innings which was reduced to 40 overs after a rain interruption of almost two hours. The bulk of the runs came in a fourth wicket stand of 129 between McCollum and Graham Hume whose 69 included five fours and two sixes. Harry Zimmermann was the stand-out bowler, following up his two early wickets with three more in his second spell. North Down’s slow start – they were 22-1 after 10 overs ultimately left them with too much to do but they gave Waringstown a scare during a second wicket stand of 160 between Erlank and Mo Aahil who finished with 72 from 91 balls; his last 30 coming off just 20 balls.

Centurion James McCollum (Ian Callender)
Waringstown joined Lisburn at the top of the Premier League table with a huge victory over defending champions Instonians at The Lawn. James McCollum proved to be the match-winner with his 118, more than twice as many as the next best batter in the match. The Ireland Test player faced 129 balls but hit only five fours and four sixes as he built his crucial innings. Coming to the middle after Ross Allen, replacing the holidaying Adam Dennison at the top of the order, was out in the fourth over he stayed until the start of the 47th over, when he gave Andrew White his third wicket. Tom Mayes, with whom he had added 73 for the sixth wicket, was there until the end, hitting a vital 51 not out from 35 balls with two fours and three sixes. Neil Rock started in a hurry, with six fours and a six in his 38 from 27 balls but he played one rash stroke too many and skied a return catch to Steve Stolk. The Waringstown professional then forced Cade Carmichael to play on, just after bringing up his half-century and when Shane Dadswell was run out by Stolk in the next over, Instonians were struggling on 157 for five. But Instonians, as befitting the champions, bat deep and despite Greg Thompson taking the next three wickets, Cian Robertson (32) and George Craigan (20) got the visitors within 20 runs before Stolk had Craigan caught in the deep to complete victory. Next Saturday, Lisburn visit The Lawn.

She shared a commanding 113-run stand with Christina Soulsby, who contributed a composed 37, before adding a further 61 in the final four overs alongside Erin Bond, who finished unbeaten on 13. The only breakthrough for Waringstown came when Lucia Derby claimed the sole wicket of the innings. Captain Naomi Matthews top-scored with 25, while Penny Speer made 23 and Sophie Hinds added 20. Tector hit just 17 fours and shared stands of 115 with Macdara Cosgrave, 90 with Addison Sheriff and 98 with brother Harry in a dominant batting display. And they did it without regular opening batter JJ Garth who dislocated a finger and Barry McCarthy who injured his left knee when bowling his seventh over. Waringstown also lost Graham Hume after bowling just 11 balls, with a back injury but it was the loss of their last six wickets for 13 runs which proved fatal for the Villagers. Gavin Hoey was the Pembroke bowling star with five wickets after Steve Stolk and Adam Dennison had put on 119 for the first wicket.

James McCollum hit 8 fours in a quality 45, sharing a half century stand with in-form Morgan Topping (38). Laurelvale's chase never got any traction as they limped to 65 for 6 in 15 overs before bad light halted play - two wickets for Ross Allen and James Cameron-Dow.

CI lost to Waringstown by 30 runs.
Belmont, 4 May.
Waringstown 267-9 (50 overs; M Topping 105, J Cameron-Dow 45*, A Dennison 43, G Hume 28; J Matchett 4-47, A McCormick 2-28)
CI 237 (47.4 overs; C Dougherty 70, C McCullough 43, S Suresh 41, J Snell 26; T Mayes 6-31)
Double Awards Day for Topping and Mayes, a century and a 6-for
A century from Morgan Topping and six wickets by Tom Mayes ensured Waringstown made it two wins out of two to start their Premier League game campaign. Topping made up for the absence of his brother Sam – ruled out by a knee injury – with 105 (nine fours, two sixes) to steer the Villagers to a total of 267 for nine. When Waringstown lost three quick wickets to collapse to 159 for eight, such a total seemed out of reach but James Cameron Dow – Sam Topping’s replacement – hit an unbeaten 45 in a ninth wicket stand of 106 to give the visitors a competitive total. When Mayes and Hume reduced CI to 21 for three, they were in control but Chris Dougherty’s 70 (six fours, three sixes) kept the hosts in touch. A seventh wicket stand of 50 between Satish Suresh and Jack Snell got them to within 61 runs of victory but Mayes cleaned up the tail.
NCU Women's Premier League
Waringstown beat Lisburn by 10 wickets (DLS).
The Lawn, 3 May.
Lisburn 120-4 (20 overs; G Wilson 35, A Hughes 29*)
Waringstown 55-0 (7 overs; S Hinds 25*, A Harrison 24*) (Rain interrupted - Waringstown target 55 off 8 overs)
Sophie Hinds, Grace Wilson and Abbi Harrison were all in the runs as Waringstown beat Lisburn in the Women's Premiership (CricketEurope)
Waringstown began their defence of the Mercury NCU Women’s Premiership with an emphatic ten-wicket win over Lisburn at The Lawn. Batting first, Lisburn were steady if not spectacular thanks to runs from the top order, with Grace Wilson top-scoring with 35 in their total of 120 for four. She was well supported by Amelia Hughes who made an unbeaten 29, Rebecca Lowe, who hit four boundaries in a rapid 23, and Taila Hurley (17). Waringstown’s attack never took the pressure off with wickets for Penny Speer and Lucia Derby, backed up by an athletic fielding effort that effected two run-outs. A heavy shower two overs into the chase saw a 50-minute hiatus, leading to a revised target of 55 inside eight overs. That proved no trouble at all to the home side openers, with Sophie Hinds making an undefeated 25 and Irish hopeful Abbi Harrison 24 not out as they knocked off the required runs with an over to spare to claim a maximum points victory.
NCU Premier League
Waringstown beat Woodvale by 57 runs (DLS).
The Lawn, 2 May.
Waringstown 313-5 (45 overs; M Topping 71*, G Hume 44*, A Dennison 43, G Thompson 36, T Mayes 32, S Topping 30 ret.ht. J McCollum 24; L Kaestner 2-39)
Woodvale 248-9 (45 overs; L Kaestner 80, R Pretorius 53, R Bryans 46; G Hume 2-14, J Mitchell 2-50, R Allen 2-64) (Bad light ended play after 45 overs - Woodvale's target was 306 after 45 overs. )
Waringstown enjoyed a winning start but the worry was the retirement of Sam Topping with a twisted knee. Despite the early setback, the Villagers totalled 313 for five with every batsman reaching double figures, although new professional Steve Stolk was run out for 10. Morgan Topping top scored with 71 from 78 balls. In Woodvale’s reply, Graham Hume struck two early blows but professional Ludwig Kaestner and captain Ruhan Pretorius added 102 for the third wicket, Pretorius the first to go for 53, from 50 balls. With Kaestner’s dismissal, leg before to James Mitchell for 80, Woodvale’s hopes faded – as did the light and the umpires took the teams off at the end of the 45th over with the visitors on 248 for nine, giving Waringstown victory by 57 runs (DLS).
