Nepal may have beaten the West Indies in a T20I series last year, but that was not exactly a full strength side from the Caribbean, and the full strength side gave Nepal something of a reality check with a dominant nine wicket win today in Mumbai.
Put into bat, Nepal quickly found themselves firmly on the back foot with the first four wickets falling with just 23 runs between them. A dominant West Indies bowling attack had Nepal 73-6 with five overs to go.
At that point a 54 run partnership for the eighth wicket between Dipendra Singh Airee and Sompal Kami helped give some more respectability to the Nepal total. Airee top scored with 58, while Kami finished unbeaten on 26 as Nepal finished their 20 overs with 133-8. Jason Holder was the pick of the West Indies bowlers with 4-27.
Hetmeyer and Hope led the West Indies to victory
West Indies wasted little time chasing down their target, doing so in 15.2 overs to win by nine wickets. Captain Shai Hope led the way with 61 from 44 balls, sharing in an unbroken partnership of 91 with Shimron Hetmeyer, who contributed 46 runs from 32 balls.
West Indies Super 8 place is now secured, but they still have a game against Italy to come on Thursday. Nepal round out their campaign on Tuesday against Scotland.
