USA's faint hopes of a second consecutive place in the Super 8s remain alive as they finished out their first round matches with a win over Namibia today in Chennai, but they need other results to go their way.
Batting first after winning the toss, USA started with openers Monank Patel and Shayan Jahangir putting on 68 in 6.5 overs before the latter was out for 22. Patel was next out having scored 52 from 30 balls.
A fourth wicket partnership of 87 between Sanjay Krishnamurthi and Milind Kumar was the biggest for the Americans with Krishnamurthi finishing the innings unbeaten with USA's top score of 68, scored from only 33 balls.
Namibia started their run chase well enough with 97-1 coming from their first ten overs. The USA bowlers pulled things back from this point though, with just 32 runs coming from the next six along side three wickets including that of Louren Steenkamp for 58.
A second wicket for Shadley van Schalkwyk
Shadley van Schalkwyk continued his fine tournament with 2-30 - taking his total for the tournament to 13 wickets at an average of 7.77 - as Namibia were kept to 168-6 from their 20 overs, losing by 31 runs.
USA's first round campaign is now over - oddly enough before almost half of the teams in the tournament have even played a third game. They require either India or Pakistan - preferably Pakistan given the net run rate situation - to lose their next two matches if they are to continue in the tournament.
Namibia have one more group match to come before they go home, against Pakistan - possibly with USA cheering them on - on Wednesday.
